About Timo
The perfect serve bartender
Ever since he was a small child, Timo Janse
always loved mixing ingredients. At first it
was a special potion that he found in the
garden containing snails and poison berries
to give to his mother (he liked his babysitter better), and
Later in college it was creating shots to serve to his friends.
After deciding the financial accounting life was not for him, Timo decided to be as good a bartender as he could be. The first time he was allowed behind the stick of a bar, he knew it was his favourite place in the world to be.
In the +20 years that would follow, Timo gave it his best to deserve the title bartender. For him this meant:
-Getting high scores at the WSET
-Competing internationally:
*Winner of Bols Around the World the only Dutch person to do so ever (!)
*Global finalist for Absolut invite
*World Class winner classic cocktail challenge globally
*Bacardi Legacy
*Disaronno Mixing Star -Competing nationally, winning:
*Entree Best bartender
*Cointreau
-Giving talks and seminars around the world including Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, Bar Convent Berlin and Venuez Antwerp, Barra Mexico and Los Angeles.
-He has made over 600.000 cocktails in his career.
-As the former and first-ever Bar manager of Door 74 starting in 2008 he has received many awards, including being the only Dutch bar EVER to be nominated at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans for both best new cocktail bar, and for best international bar.
Also, Door 74 was featured in the “World's 50 best bar” list four times.
-Since December 2017, Timo is the proud co-owner of Flying Dutchmen Cocktails in the heart of Amsterdam
Flying Dutchmen Cocktail has been nominated at Tales of the Cocktails in the final 4 as best New cocktail bar international and won Entree best new cocktail bar plus Esquire NL best new cocktail bar.
Currently it is the highest ranking bar of the Netherlands at world’s 50 best bars, and Top 500 bars each year since its existence (!)
As of August 2020 he is also proud co-owner of Dutch Courage Cocktailbar, on the iconic Zeedijk in the center of Amsterdam, celebrating Dutch Spirits and its historic importance.
In October 2023 he also opened Belly of the Beast situated in the basement Flying Dutchmen Cocktails.
It this first business that also features food, and a large one as well with over 150 seats.
-Now totalling a staff of 32 bartenders, he loves spending time training his staff on spirit knowledge, hospitality and speed and efficiency.
-For the past 6 years he has been co-owner of Amsterdam Cocktail Week, an event that is held in over 45 different bars focusing on the stimulation of the cocktail industry towards the consumer.
-He is also owner-creator of Perfect Serve Barshow Amsterdam, the leading cocktail convention of the Netherlands in it’s tenth year.
-Timo has written and has been featured in many national and international magazines and newspapers, including several in-flight magazines, plus has written a non-alcoholic cocktail book for children in 2008.
-Since 2016 he is also the Vice-president of the board for the NBC, the dutch branch of the IBA.
-He started his own brand of cocktail cherries, RevolutionCherry.
This product that Is 100% natural, focusses on quality and heritage and has revolutionised the cherry industry in the Netherlands.
Timo has guest bartended and judged cocktail competitions in over 40 different countries, including China, Russia, Iceland, Mexico, Taiwan, UK, France and USA, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Libanon, Israel and many more, more than any Dutch Bartender ever alive or dead.
He is a big fan of vintage arcade games, and Spongebob Squarepants, and has a beautiful daughter named Lux.
